This weekend will focus on the art of shaping stone into useable tools.Flintknapping is one of the most ancient and unanimous skills of humankind. There is something powerful about shaping the bones of the earth, or stones, into such precise and efficient hunting and crafting tools. As we work the stone we will explore what else stones have to offer us as hunters and caretakers of the earth.
Since flintknapping is such a focused skill, this weekend will be broken up with lots of shooting, stalking, camouflage, tracking, and other skills of the hunter. By the end of the weekend you will be hafting (attaching) handmade arrowheads to your arrow shafts with natural glue and animal tendon sinew for lashing. We will also explore shaping wood with stone tools, revisiting arrows through the lens of crafting with stone tools. You will leave with the beginnings of a stone tool kit for carving, scraping, and overall shaping of wood.
