Rain and Shine at the Acres!
Noah Winslow, July 2, 2018
The first week of summer camp was a huge success rain and shine!
The clans from Primitive Camp and Base Camp set off into the woods and began to build a connection to the earth through exploration, learning new primitive skills, and, of course, playing more than a few games of Capture the Flag in the Hemlocks.
Base Campers, like the Red Spotted Newt clan, spent time building a clan base where they focused on four essentials for survival: Water, Food, Fire and Shelter. While the Ash cakes might need more salt next time, the Red Spotted Newts were able to collect water in a bucket, build a survival shelter with sticks and leaves, and make fires using multiple methods throughout the week.
Meanwhile participants of Archer's Apprentices and Bowmaking camp focused on honing their craft. They were taught to make a bow from start to finish, converting wood from a tree into a useful tool.
