Wilderness Skills Courses

Nature Mentoring Certification

Interested in teaching nature connection? This is where it all begins! WSB & AWS are not prerequisite for this program.

While designed specifically for teachers, mentors, and parents, this course is also an excellent way to develop your own capacity to learn and grow individually and implement local ecological knowledge and outdoor adventure skills in your life. It's a great supplement for those enrolled in or graduating from a related degree program, and an ideal entry into the field of experiential education careers. A variety of wilderness skills will be covered, catering to the variety of experience levels present. And if you want to teach nature-connection programs or integrate the skills and practices into an existing teaching regimen, this is a perfect path to take.

There are no prerequisites for attending this training. All skill levels are welcome.

Imagine learning through wilderness-based experiences, engaging your hands, your head, and your heart for an integrated understanding of the old ways and of how relevant they are to nature connection even today. You will come away with an understanding and ability to mentor yourself through questioning, awareness, and inner tracking, and the ability to do that for those around you. The practices we'll share draw from 8-Shields mentoring pedagogy, Coyote Mentoring, and over 20 years of programmatic experience delivering quality nature-immersion experiences. And all of these practices can be attributed in many ways to the generations that came before us and to modern peoples still living closely with the earth. It is an immersive hands-on experience, that involves deeply exploring relationships with oneself, the earth, and community.
