Music man, storyteller, games guru and enigmatic explorer
Zak enjoys sharing the magic of nature and wilderness living with people of all ages. He is proud to have made his own first connections with nature in the small village park in Spencer, NY. He then received an honors degree in Environmental History from Ithaca College, which set him on a path to help young people learn about and protect the natural world. He has served youth in various places such as City Year Philadelphia as well as Stone Environmental Schools of New England, but when Zak discovered wild edibles and Primitive Pursuits in 2010, he believed that primitive skills and ancient knowledge were much more meaningful than natural sciences . He has spent over 7 years teaching programs for Primitive Pursuits and has grown in so many ways. He has since furthered his education by taking courses through local organizations such as the Finger Lakes Permaculture Institute, Game of Logging, Alternatives Federal Credit Union, as well as Primitive Pursuits' own Adult Workshops. He also is passionate about music, making people laugh, and just being a good person. He hopes to continue planting perennial foods, have a family, and continue serving himself, other people, and the natural world in whatever he does.
