There is a new breeze in the air over 4-H acres as summer begins to come to a close. We are still out in the woods, loving the change of seasons and having fun! This week the forest was filled with crafts, games, and new friends. Walking through the woods with a camera this week, I followed the sound of singing and laughter from camp to camp. Archer’s apprentices were sharpening their skills and joining together to aim at targets in the projectile field. I stopped by at Friday’s Bow-lympics and saw campers collaborating and competing in fun archery games.

Raven’s camp hosted an extravagant and wonderfully written original musical on Thursday! Complete with a curtain made from a cord and a tarp! Campers wrote and acted in the pirate themed production. Dawning costumes and face paint they entertained the whole crowd of other campers and counselors. Counselor sol narrated the play with a ukulele in hand. Campers worked all week writing their own parts and working together to bring the production to life.

Color foragers got crafty this week collecting golden rod and other natural materials to create beautiful vibrant natural dyes. Once the dyes were prepared over a large campfire (With popcorn cooking right next to it) They placed T shirts, yard, and cotton into the mix. For the rest of the week the campers played games and relaxed while felting using our recently dyed cotton. The creations they came up with were astounding. Cute kitty hats, sculptures, bags and more!

Forest village created a beautiful peace hoop and spent time face painting and making new friends.  They kept the energy high all week. Our wonderful extended day campers dawned their charcoal face paint to become Unicorns, kitties, puppies and bears. They then headed out on an expedition through the forest. Working together in a shady spot at Cedar camp, they came up with a fabulous scavenger hunt for Forest Village to work through the following day. Campers created rhymes, jokes, and drawings to make this scavenger hunt extraordinary.

There were also lots of cross camp games this week! Enchanted Forest and Forest explorers joined forces for a huge game of capture the flag on the archery field. And Forest village joined forces with a few other camps for our famous wet sponge dodge ball when the weather got hot. It is an honor to get to spend my week with such thoughtful and creative campers. Check back in next week for our last blog post of the summer!
