Together We Thrive: Nature Access for All
Like many, we’ve faced unexpected challenges. A loss of anticipated funding in 2025 and a projected reduction in county support for 2026 have created a significant financial setback. Without your help, these challenges could limit the programs we offer and the lives we touch. We need your support to keep this mission alive.
Dear Primitive Pursuits Families and Alumni,
As the days grow shorter and the chill of winter settles in, we hope you’re finding warmth in reflection, connection, and gratitude. Whether around a fire with loved ones or in quiet moments outdoors, we hope your memories with Primitive Pursuits continue to inspire and uplift you.
For over 23 years, Primitive Pursuits, a program of Cornell Cooperative Extension Tompkins County (CCETC) has been a place where more than 10,000 individuals—from toddlers to elders—have discovered resilience, wonder, and belonging in nature. In 2025 alone, we welcomed over 700 unique participants, each embarking on immersive journeys that go far beyond a walk in the woods. These are experiences that challenge, empower, and cultivate a lifelong love for the natural world.
Every campfire story, every muddy adventure, every spark of curiosity is made possible by families like yours—and by the dedicated staff who bring our mission to life. This year, we employed over 45 passionate educators who not only guided children through the wild but also grew as leaders themselves, carrying forward the values of hope, stewardship, and community.
Yet, like many, we’ve faced unexpected challenges. A loss of anticipated funding in 2025 and a projected reduction in county support for 2026 have created a significant financial setback. Without your help, these challenges could limit the programs we offer and the lives we touch.
But we’re not here to simply weather the storm—we’re here to grow, to thrive, and to continue building a future where nature is accessible to all.
You know the power of what we do. In a time when both communities and ecosystems are under strain, connecting youth to nature and each other is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. These experiences shape compassionate, capable leaders who will care for our planet and each other.
We need your support to keep this mission alive.
