We can’t believe there is only one week left of summer! From playing outside, to learning all about different plants, and all the way to learning about different survival skills, our campers at Primitive Pursuits have been having a great summer.
Monday, we welcomed both new and returning campers. We always start our weeks off with groups getting to know each other and the land we are on. Campers explored the creek and built fairy houses! From all the rain and mud, we have been doing a lot of fun face paint around camp. Don’t be surprised if you see dragons running through the forest!
Our Forest Archers group is running this week, a camp where campers practice their archery skills in our Meadow! Campers learn the ins and outs of handling a bow and how to respect a tool. Tuesday, the Archers snuck up on other groups, to practice their camouflage and sneaking skills.
In the second half of the week, after groups had worked on their skills, lots of classic Primitive Pursuits games were played. Raven’s Camp took a blindfolded trek through the woods, led by Instructor Gray, to go to Turkey Knoll and play a game of Keeper of the Keys. Keeper of the Keys is a popular game here where someone sits blindfolded surrounded by matches and the campers must quietly approach them to take a match without being heard. Campers practice skills such as Fox walking, a common skill here where you are taught to balance your center of gravity and be aware of your surroundings when you walk. The campers successfully retrieved the matches!
To close out the week, we had another fair at Turkey Knoll, where lots of yummy treats were cooked up and served camp-wide. The fair opened with a cool song performance by a few staff and campers before stations opened. Instructor Dina had a face painting station, Instructor Asher had a food station, and there was flower-bouquet making, popcorn, and more! A few instructors played some lovely songs on their banjos and flutes, bringing together the renaissance faire vibe. Kiddos were running around, showing off their cool trinkets that they got at the ren faire! The forest was happy and so were we.
