We will take bulky pieces of wood and work following the grain to transform them into sleek, efficient hunting tools.
We will take bulky pieces of wood and work following the grain to transform them into sleek, efficient hunting tools.Though the staves we use will be pre-harvested, we will learn about tree identification, harvesting, and processing in the context of the bowyer. All aspects of bow making will be covered, and you will leave on Sunday with a finished hunting bow. The self-bow is one of the most fascinating pieces of primitive technology, in that if shaped the right way a single piece of wood can store enough energy to shoot an arrow deadly enough to take down large game.
Through working with your stave you will connect with the wood, the forest, and the ancient skill of bow making that is in all of our shared ancestry. Not only will you walk away with a finished bow, you will have the tools to make more bows on your own.
