The first week of camp was a blast! Despite the hot temperatures and humidity, our kiddos kept up their great energy and were all eager to learn, have fun, and make new friends. We started the week by learning different camp activities and traditions, important safety skills, and by getting to know our staff and camp community. We ended most of our days this week with water games to help everyone cool off before pickup.
On Monday, campers enjoyed playing icebreaker games, and spent time exploring their designated camp areas, helping them feel welcome and giving them an idea of what the rest of the week might have in store. Tuesday was filled with even more exciting activities. Growing Wild campers tended to their garden and played by the creek at Trillium Camp. Pathfinders campers built small shelters with sticks and other materials found at Beaver Camp. Capture the Flag campers played many rounds of capture the flag, Purple Finch campers learned to make cordage and by Wednesday, everyone had settled into the camp routine, their confidence was rising, and the kids were excited to take on new challenges with their fellow campers.
Wednesday brought new knowledge and fun with the Yellow Warbler campers learning to carve wood and Coyote Camp learning about tree identification as well as how to set up tarps securely in the event of a storm. After learning how to start a fire, Pathfinders campers were given the opportunity to practice and since temperatures were still climbing, water games and activities were sprinkled in throughout the day.

With temperatures reaching close to 100 degrees on Thursday, many of the camps played under the sprinkler and Capture the Flag campers made a trip to the creek to stay cool until it was time to take the nice hike back to camp.
On Friday, some of our campers took a trip to the cliffs to hike and explore, while also taking the time to sit and meditate, using their senses to observe the natural world around them in even closer detail. Yellow Warbler campers and Pathfinders campers enjoyed the afternoon by exploring the creek, catching crayfish, painting rocks, and more. The week ended with some wonderful closing activities, finishing up just before the thunderstorm interrupted the heatwave cooling the air and watering the plants. We can’t wait to see what next week will bring!
