A rainy start to the day didn’t stop our staff from creating long-lasting traditions, structures and memories.

Staff Training Week was the perfect way to kick off the summer! We started the week with a rainy Monday, but the weather didn’t dull anyone’s spirits. Staff embraced the challenge and continued on. Started by learning the important camp skills like knife safety, fire building, and navigating the campgrounds. Even with the rain, teams successfully gathered materials and built fires while practicing teamwork and problem-solving. Throughout the day, we also played name games, completed scavenger hunts, attended informational sessions, and got to know one another through these fun team-building activities.

As the week continued, staff participated in a lot of different hands-on activities that helped to build peoples outdoor skills and their confidence. Tuesday included friction fire building, blindfolded tree identification, storytelling around the campfire, and more team-building games. Wednesday brought morning game stations, tarp and water challenges, and cordage making. Staff ended the day with making a big grass rope and making it into a swing. Thursday focused on more training stations and skill-building activities, including stick throwing and archery, helping everyone prepare for the summer ahead.

We wrapped up the week on Friday with a visit from the MITS, an exciting percussion workshop, our opening fire making ceremony, and more circle games. By the end of Staff Training Week, our staff has all learned valuable outdoor and leadership skills, built lasting friendships, and created a strong foundation and community for this camp season. We can’t wait to welcome our campers next week and put our skills into action!
